    What Is a DOT Physical?

A DOT (Department of Transportation) physical is a comprehensive medical exam required for all commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers. Its purpose is to ensure you’re physically and mentally fit to safely operate a CMV in accordance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) guidelines.

If you meet the health requirements, you’ll receive a Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC), typically valid for up to two years.

But the truth is, many common health conditions (like high blood pressure, diabetes, or sleep apnea) do not automatically disqualify you and can be managed with proper treatment and documentation.

At Chirohouse Clinic, we’ll guide you through every step of the process in a respectful, driver-friendly environment.
